I Co-Host A Weekly Tech Podcast; Are You Subscribed?

October 14, 2010

The Drill Down - LogoAdmittedly, it’s been a while since I’ve updated anyone using my personal blog, but I have a very good reason: It’s far more enjoyable to write for someone else’s website.

So, that’s basically what I’ve been doing. The most prominent of these sites continues to be Geeks of Doom (who recently christened me as an associate news editor) followed by my contributions to the official site of The Drill Down weekly podcast I co-host.

Yes, I do a weekly podcast about technology, gadgetry and social web that has a pretty decent following. My co-hosts Muhammad Saleem, JD Rucker and Andrew Sorcini asked me to join the show in June. They are are among the most intelligent, talented and active minds I’ve ever encountered, which makes me look forward to chatting with them every week.

If this is news to you, I would highly recommend subscribing to our RSS feed to listen on the web, via iTunes or catch us live every Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. CST via USTREAM.

Interviewed On The New Mediology Podcast

April 6, 2009

tnmlogoHosts of The New Mediology podcast, Bill Seaver and Nathan Moore, interviewed me about the impact of social news sharing sites in a public relations / marketing world. Episode 22 is posted on their site now and (of course I shamelessly) encourage everyone to check it out.

Without robbing the answers I gave to Bill and Nathan, I will say that social news sharing sites like digg, reddit, mixx and Stumble Upon are all very crucial to the media ecosystem that includes hard hitting journalism, marketing, advertising, public relations and everything else in between. What’s more important is newer news sharing communities are hungry for their own active users, and often welcome them with open arms, (Tipd is a great example).  If you aren’t seeing a benefit from being a part of these news sharing communities, then you haven’t spent enough time with them.

I’m curious as to what others think of my opinion, so if you have some time venture over to The New Mediology site to listen.

PodCamp Nashville: Who Is Speaking?

February 19, 2009

Unless your radio is  eternally tuned to a local NPR station, a period of disconnect exists for some people to associate audio programs with the preferred medium of intellectuals. Of course, if you scale history back far enough you could see this to be true. When radios were the pinnacle of communication technology there were meaty, intelligent programs being done by paid professionals. The words they spoke would provoke hearty dialog between family members, neighbors, friends and anyone in listening range.

I love podcasts because they provide the same function, only with a much higher potential for interesting conversation because there is no limited range of hearing. Now the entire world can learn, participate and, of course, listen.

Here are a few speaker sessions I’m really looking forward to…

PodCamp Nashville 2 Details: Epic or Legendary?

February 4, 2009

podcampnashThe venue and date for Nashville’s second PodCamp event were decided tonight at the planning meeting. PodCamp Nashville 2 will be held at Vanderbilt’s Owen School March 7. So if you produce a podcast or enjoy talking about interactive technology, mark your calendars. The prolific team of volunteer organizers tell me the official Web site should be up and running soon. So definitely check podcampnashville.com for updated information. [But for now, you'll just have to cope with the delightful tumbler blog and my measly blog post.]

worldofpodcamp1Since PodCamp tends to be much smaller than a BarCamp event, the funding will be much different. As of this moment, we’re seeking two different levels of sponsorship:  Epic Sponsors for $500 and a Legendary Sponsors for $1,500.

But again, please check official PodCamp site next week for updated information, including what these sponsorship packages will contain and how you can participate leading up to the event itself.

The Drill Up: Guest Hosts on Impromptu The Drill Down Podcast

February 4, 2009

0204-drilldownAnyone interested in where I look for the best content about technology news may be surprised when I don’t start immediately listing Web sites I frequent. Since it’s so easy to post newsworthy information on a news blog, I’m hesitant to trust more than five or six different sites. Instead I look to Andrew Sorcini, Muhammad Saleem and Reg Saddler, better known as MrBabyMan, Msaleem and Zaibatsu from the world of social media.

Along with Lidija Davis, they do a podcast called The Drill Down to highlight the week’s biggest tech news. Typically they live stream the show on Ustream.tv, which allows for other social media geeks like myself to participate via chat room function. It’s not uncommon for them to have guests on, and this past week they did an impromptu The Drill Up version comprised of people who watch the show regularly. (The actual podcast was delayed until the following day.) Read the rest of this entry »
